Over the weekend I saw The Art of Getting By and Midnight in Paris.
The Art of Getting By is a romantic "comedy." Maybe...if you think awkward acting and long drawn out scenes are comical. This movie is so boring, it makes the teenage life seem like a lifetime of depression. The main character struggles with his existence, love, and unrealistic interpretations of his senior year of high school. He acts as if his world is ending, as if your life ends after high school. In reality, nobody ever wants to return to high school after they experience college. Also, his awkward friendship with his love...what was he???...abruptly starts with no background to friendship development. One moment they don't even communicate, the next they are best buds. And their love relationship is completely predictable. He falls in love with her, she doesn't want to admit she is in love with him, she hooks up with his friend, he doesn't want to be her friend anymore, they magically make up, and it ends with them questioning their future and realizing that they are too young to be in a serious relationship. We all saw that coming! The only funny part of this movie is when is calls his love a traitorous, sadistic little hussy. LOL. The sad part is that she doesn't even smack him. What girl would take that comment well? Worst movie since Beastly......................and then I saw Midnight in Paris.
Midnight in Paris is another "romantic comedy." Except that it is not romantic and it is not comical. I had low expectations going into this movie, but I did not think it was going to be as bad as it turned out. Seriously. Awkward acting, no chemistry between any of the characters, bad script, bad costumes, bad bad bad everything. Basically the main character is a romantic and goes back in time to the 1920s to live out his version of his golden age. He meets all of the famous writers and painters from that time period and has an orgasm everytime he meets one of his idols. And while he goes on his rendezvous, his fiance obviously finds warmth in another man. As for the fiance, she is a complete biatch and as bland as a rice cake. Nothing in the movie was funny and there is no character development so it is impossible to connect with the characters. WORST MOVIE SINCE BEASTLY. SERIOUSLY.
In conclusion, I saw two very bad movies over the weekend, which sucked because movies are expensive and they wasted my time. Hopefully the next movie I see will make up for these two.

Movie Updates
About two weeks ago I saw Thor with a group of friends. I honestly don't know much about the Norse mythology, so the plot was tough to follow....almost to the point where it seemed as if there were no plot. Also, character development was horrible. At no point did you sympathize, despise, or relate to any of the characters because they were basically one dimensional. The attraction between Thor and his earthly desire (what was here name???) seemed fake with no emotion behind it. No romance, no chemistry. Also, this movie was definitely made to be seen in 3D. All of the crazy colors and objects flying at the camera was a little too much if you weren't watching with 3D glasses. Even if I were, I think it would have been too much. Overall, Thor was a forgettable movie, but I wasn't expect much anyway. Just don't waste your money.
A few days after Thor, I saw Something Borrowed with the girls. It was such a cute, funny movie. I highly recommend this movie for a girls night. My favorite part is when the best friends dance to Push It. lol. They do such a funny dance. One bad part about the movie was the costumes. So ugly and not flattering for the characters. Besides that, the acting was awesome, the men are cute, and the plot will keep you on your feet. This is a must see movie!

15 Things You May Not Know About Me
My friend, Jessica, did this blog write up a few days ago, and because I found it fun, I decided to do it as well! Talk about getting on the bandwagon. lol
1. I have a irrational fear of ice skating. I firmly believe that if you fall, someone could skate by and cut off your hand.
2. I love watching Jeopardy and trying to answer as many questions as I can. I keep count every time I watch.
3. I love everything related to dance, since I am a dancer. I love all forms of dance, especially Irish, and I believe it is the best way to let out frustration, express yourself, feel good about yourself, and get healthy.
4. I am a very quite person, until you get to know me and I feel I can trust you. I honestly love making new friends, and because of that, I am trying to be more open with people when I first meet them.
5. I enjoy going to museums and learning as much as possible. I could spend the whole day in one museum, reading each explanation, and looking at every exhibit.
6. Traveling is one of my biggest desires. I want to see the world! I've been to most of the states, Dominican Republic, Italy, and Scotland. I desperately would love to go to Ireland and Greece.
7. I am a very chill person, and hardly anything you say will upset me or offend me. I let most offensive, rude, or inconsiderate comments roll off my mind because it doesn't help to dwell on those things. I try to laugh everything off and not take life too seriously--it is too short.
8. I love board games. Especially scrabble. Enough said.
9. I will be getting my MA in English with a cconcentration in Professional Writing and Rhetoric. I believe it will take my 3 years to obtain this degree.
10. I love leopard print! It is hott and people should accept it!
11. I am terribly scared of stink bugs. I know they are harmless, but I fear them as much as a fear bees! lol.
12. My favorite television show is Desperate Housewives. I have seen every episode and love it!
13. I have a fear of lakes and deep water. Seriously, terrified of trying to comprehend how vast it is!
14. My favorite part of a guy is his forearms. If a guy has nice forearms, then I will have a serious crush. hahahaha.
15. Do not ever wonder "what if." Always do everything you want to do and don't let anyone hold you back. Life is too short to wonder "what if" you had done something. Just do it. You never know if you will be able to do it tomorrow.
Carpe Diem, my friends.

Water for Elephants
One of my all time favorite books is Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. I have loved this book for years, and when I heard the movie was coming out, I was a bit worried. Obviously no movie is better than the book, but some do a great job of sticking to the story and using exact quotations from the novel, which is what I usually prefer over the directors interpretation of the story and adaptations.
Thus, when I saw Water for Elephants (the movie) last night, I was very pleased. It followed the book closely and used quotations from the book, which was amazing. The actors were great, as well. Reese Witherspoon was beautiful in her portrayal of Marlena and her costumes were spectacular. I wasn't surprised that she did such a great job, she is a phenomenal actress. I was surprised at how well Robert Pattinson portrayed Jacob. I didn't think I would like him in this movie, but he grew on me throughout the film. He has that boyish charm and innocence that was perfect for the role of Jacob.
I highly recommend this movie, it is so romantic with lovely life lessons from which everyone can learn. However, I extremely recommend that you read the book, because the themes about life and humanity come across better, and the romance resonates better from the page, as you read the exact words and phrases that make Water for Elephants a timeless favorite.

Jane Eyre: "You Transfix Me, Quite"
Last weekend Andrea and I saw Jane Eyre. We went to Fairfax Corner to see the movie, which is my favorite theater because they have the Kid's Combo. It consists of a small popcorn, fruit snacks, and a small drink for $7.50, which is a steal of a deal when you think about how much food costs at the theater. AND the drink cup and straw are movie mementos and reusable. My straw had the bird from Rio clinging to it! Super Cute.
Jane Eyre was very enjoyable. I love the story, love the characters, and love the themes. The movie did a good job portraying all aspects of the book and was very entertaining. I would recommend this movie, especially for a girls' night. What was slightly disappointing was the leading man...while he was a great actor, he wasn't very "dreamy." It was hard to swoon over the romance, but the language held true to the book, which made up for the lacking of extraordinary handsome characters. If you are more captivated by words than by looks, you will fall in love with the characters.
In other news....THIS IS MY FIRST POST IN A VERY LONG TIME!!!! I know, I know, I should have a lot of updates to tell you, but I don't. I have been very busy with work and the pot holes in life that we all hit at some point. Hopefully I have overcome and can learn from experiences. I did see Red Riding Hood about a month ago and it was not good. Once the wolf starting talking I knew it was a flopper. So it really isn't worth discussing.
I went shopping this past weekend! Recently I discovered Ann Taylor Loft, which has cute work clothes that a comfortable and stylish. Loft was having a 40% sale this weekend, so I stocked up on my Spring outfits. I got a cute dress, 2 skirts, 3 sweaters, a pair of dress pants that look like jeans, a necklace and matching earrings. I know it was a lot, but I didn't have any Spring work clothes because I started my job in November. I only bought winter clothes when I first started working. Obviously there are shirts and pants I can wear throughout the year, but I needed some spring and summer outfits to make up for the winter clothes I won't be able to wear. Since I spent so much money, I'm not buying clothes or anything else except gas for my car until June. I have to save money!!!!! BUT CLOTHES ARE SO CUTE AND SHOPPING IS SO FUN! gahhhhh the dilemmas! lol.

"Long Time Green Thumb"
A few days ago, Andrea and I saw Beastly. I knew this movie didn't look too good, but I thought it would at least be entertaining. WRONG. Worst movie I have seen in years. SERIOUSLY. Do not waste your money. Beastly is a modern re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. The main characters are teenagers in high school, and attend a somewhat futuristic high school that is located at the end of a New York City alleyway. FOR REAL!?!?!?! Talk about low budget. The high school doubles as an airport as well. I know, confusing. As the acting goes from bad to REALLY BAD, the "beast" struggles to get the girl to love him so he can become beautiful again. SELFISH!?!?! I think so. As the girl, who already loved the beast before he became the beast, reveals that her father is a drug addict and she is some pure and rare specimen who accepts one for his/her inner being, we (the audience) recognize that she is a very bad and awkward actress. NOT CUTE. As she boards a train to run to her father's hospital bed due to an overdoes, the beast chases after the train, but can't catch it because he runs out of platform...oh, and because you can't fucking catch a train!
This movie is stereotypical, predictable, and ridiculous (and not in a good way). It isn't even a cute date night movie because the acting is awkward. Additionally, the title of this post is a quotation from the movie. Enough said.

February Anguished English
Here are my February favorites:
Stop the Presses: "Man struck by lightning faces battery charge"
Wrong Word: "It was a case of love at Versailles"
Sign of the Times: "Nailed to trees along rural roads around Shreveport, Louisiana: Frank's Body Works"
School Daze: "A fairy tale is something that never happened a long time ago"
Sportspeak: "Jerry Remy then hit an RBI single off Hass's leg, which rolled into right field"
Lost in Translation: "In a Jeweler's window in India: We shoot earholes"

The Monster Ball
On Thursday Josh and I went to The Monster Ball, which is Lady Gaga's concert. It was an amazing concert, the best concert I have ever been to. She really knows how to get her audience pumped up and inspire her fans. Also, throughout the concert she took time to communicate with her audience. She put on a hat and a vest that some of her fans threw onto the stage and she took time to read posters that her fans were holding up. Additionally, she sang happy birthday to some one in the audience who had a poster that said it was his birthday. And before she sang "Telephone," she called someone in the audience on her cell and asked them to join her backstage after the show!!!! I was so jealous! hahaha.
The best part about the show was her singing! She has an amazing voice in concert and she sings well while she dances!! She is so talented! It is really hard to describe the show, but I recommend everyone to go see her!!! You will not be let down! Here are some pictures I took at the concert:

Long Time No Post!
I have not written in quite some time due to work, graduate school applications, birthday celebrations, and my tv addiction (which is not as strong as it used to be because I'm ALWAYS at work...LITERALLY). The past few weeks have flown by, and since I do not remember everything that I probably wanted to write about, here are a few snipets of some enjoyable moments I expereinced during the chaos.
Proposal Writing and Managing Course Training:
For four days, nine hours per day, I got to go to training for work. The wonderful thing about training is that it isn't at the office. It was at this really nice hotel that was only 10 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE. However, it started at 8 a.m. every morning, so I still had to wake up early. I found the course very interesting and inspiring, especially since we got to work in teams and get to know people from other companies. But the BEST part about the training was the food. We got free breakfast and lunch. For breakfast we had an assortment of breakfast pastries and fruit. It was generally the same everyday. For lunch we always had a different meal. The first day we had kabobs, the second day we had mexican, the third day we had lasagna, and the last day we had roast beef. Each meal came with a side a vegetables, salad, or mashed potatoes. It was amazing! And since it was buffet style, it was UNLIMITED. I gourged like food was going out of style. Also, we got dessert after lunch. Dessert always consisted of cookies, brownies, mini cheesecakes, and pastries. I definitely miss training : (
Valentine's Day
Unfortunately, I had to work until 6:30 p.m. on the holy day of love and lust, but when I did get off from work, I went to Josh's house for a lovely dinner. Josh made veal parmigiana, pasta, and vegetables, and I prepared the salad...lol....I cannot cook! He bought a huge platter of cupcakes as well. We ate dinner with another couple with whom we have been friends for quite some time. In addition, we had 3 different bottles of wine and a bottle of champagne. It was an amazing dinner!
Josh's Birthday
Thursday was Josh's birthday. We went to a Japanese Steakhouse for dinner with a bunch of friends. On Saturday we went out to D.C. to celebrate again. We went to a bar called Redline. It was a pretty cool bar with amazing food!!!! Like whoa! Each of the booths had two taps for beer as well. Which was pretty cool because you didn't have to keep asking the waiter/waitress to fill up your glass. All you had to do was reach over to the lever, pull, and pour your own beer! I don't even drink beer and I found it cool. I definitely think I might have a birthday party there this year!

The King's Speech
The King's Speech is a movie based on the true story of Bertie, King George VI of England. It chronicles his quest to overcome his speech impediment, a stutter that he has suffered with since his early childhood. His wife, Elizabeth, the future Queen Mother, arranges for her husband to see a speech therapist, Lionel Logue. Logue uses many exercises to help Bertie loosen his jaw muscles, strengthen his diaphragm, and find confidence in his own voice.
After the death of his father, King George V, his brother becomes king. But King Edward VIII cannot uphold the title or the job, and has to pass the crown his brother, Bertie, the Duke of York. He begins his rule just as England is on the brink of war with Germany. The country desperately needs to hear the King's voice for reassurance, so King George VI trains with Logue to deliver flawless speeches. With the support of Logue, his family, and the government leaders, King George VI is able to overcome his stutter and become an inspiration of success for his country.
I highly recommend this movie. It was amazing. Hands down, the best movie I have seen since Black Swan. The story is inspiring, the characters are sensational, and the message is touching. Truly a story of companionship, trust, and faith. In addition, The King's Speech has some great witty jokes and comments that help juxtapose the scenes that reflect the King's anxiety and unhappiness concerning his stutter.

No Strings Attached
On Saturday I saw No Strings Attached with Andrea. This is a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman. The basic plot is boy and girl meet, boy and girl like each other, girl is afraid to fall in love, boy and girl end relationship, and then boy and girl try to resolve what could have been lost. The plot has been done many times with many different actors and place settings, and while the movie was overall a crowd pleaser with a couple of great one liners, it didn't surpass any other movies of its type. It merely just falls in line with all the other romantic comedies that have this same plot.
Even though the plot was stereotypical, I found the actors quite appealing. Natalie Portman does a good job portraying the insecure, awkward, smart, and pretty girl, and Ashton Kutcher definitely can put on the charm of the cute, hopeless romantic that makes woman drool. Also, Kutcher is looking real good these days...and I mean REAL good. The lead characters were backed up by their funny and quick witted friends whom they turn to for relationship advice. These characters are what keep the movie from becoming predictable and overdone, and are the reason that many people will probably see this movie.
Thus, I found No Strings Attached charming and cute, a good date night movie or chick flick with the girls. I would recommend it to anyone would like to have a good laugh and to watch a movie that can just let one unwind or relax for the evening.

"Bloopers and Blunders, Fluffs and Flubs, Goofs and Gaffes"
For Christmas I got a desk calendar that has hilarious linguistic lapses from advertisements, signs, newspaper headlines, and other everyday sources. Each day contains a lapsa lingua with a header describing where it was found. Here is a list of some of my favorites for January:
January 11, 2011:
Title: School Daze
"The poet Dante stood with one foot firmly planted in the Middle Ages while with the other he saluted the rising dawn of the Renaissance."
January 20, 2011:
Title: Stop the Presses
"Following the brawl at 5 East Broad St., Detective Delvecchio said, Officer Michael Murphy of the Farmington Police drove down Orchard Street with his department's police dog addressing the crowd."
If you do not get it the first time, read it again, or out loud, and you will find what is wrong with the statement.
In addition, I came across some funny double entendres the other day:
"Include your children when baking cookies."
"Police begin campaign to run down jaywalkers."
"Drunks get 9 months in violin case."
"Kids make nutritious snacks."
I hope you enjoyed these hilarious statements, and got a good laugh from them! I will keep posting my favorites from the "Anguished English" calendar at the end of each month.

Happy New Year 2011
To ring in the New Year, I went up to Connecticut to visit Josh. On New Year's Eve, I took the bus to Penn Station in New York City and met Josh there. Then we went to Brooklyn to visit his cousin. We all had lunch and hung out for a few hours and then we went to Long Island to spend New Year's Eve with a friend and his family. Our friend's family made a huge dinner, and we had appetizers and dessert. It was delicious! And they had amazing champagne! We played Apples to Apples before watching the ball drop on TV. I can't believe it's 2011! I have not made any resolutions for this year....I still need to think about them. Anyway, after watching the ball drop, we went to bed because we were so exhausted from traveling all day.
On Saturday Josh and I drove from Long Island to his mom's house in Connecticut. The scenery driving up there was so gorgeous! They live in the mountains and there was a lot of snow up there, so it was very picturesque. It took about two hours for us to get there and when we arrived we were pretty hungry so we went to lunch at a Mexican restaurant called Senior Ponchos. After lunch, Josh and I just hung out at his house for the rest of the day. In the evening we watched Eat, Drink, Man, Woman. I saw that movie in an Anthropology class I took in college and I really enjoyed it. It is about a Chinese family and their relationship as a family compared with their relationships with their lovers. It also involves cooking! I know it seems random, but you have to watch it to understand how the food correlates with love. Also, it is in Chinese, so you have to read the English subtitles. Josh didn't like it as much as I did. He described it as an "Asian chick flick." lol.
On Sunday, Josh and I went into NYC to do some sightseeing. First we went to the Metropolitan Museum Art.
On our way to Rockefeller Center, we walked by the Plaza Hotel, the one from Home Alone 2
And then we walked by Trump Tower.
Then we saw St. Patrick's Cathedral. I love the architecture!
At Rockefeller Center, we took a quick picture at the tree. It was so crowded that we only stayed for about 10 minutes.
We then went to Times Square and saw where the ball dropped.
Our last stop before heading back to the bus station was Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. Here are a few pictures of the celebrities we ran into:
Me with Johnny Depp
Josh with former president Nixon
Me with the Spice Girls
Josh and I with Lady Gaga.
The wax museum was so much fun! I actually didn't think the wax people looked as real as what people had told me, but it was still cool. On our way back to Penn Station, we walked by Foley's Irish Pub in NYC! I had to get a picture:
That concludes my trip to NYC and Connecticut. I hope you all had a great celebration for the New Year and are looking forward to 2011.
